Surrounded by leafy bushland and rural properties, Bedfordale is a small residential area and the gateway to the Darling Range. Bedfordale’s native landscapes make it a popular area for hiking and cycling, and it’s home to a unique attraction in its re-created Elizabethan Village.
Things to do in Bedfordale
Take a step back in time as you visit replicas of William Shakespeare’s birthplace and Anne Hathaway’s Cottage at the Elizabethan Village. It was designed by British engineer Lee Fowler in the 1970s as a re-creation of Stratford Upon Avon and features English landscaped gardens, cobblestone pathways and a Village Green.
Feeling hungry? Then head to the Elizabethan Village Pub which is modelled on a traditional English tavern, with exposed brick walls and wooden beams within its Tudor-style exterior. Beers are created on-site at The Last Drop Brewery and can be enjoyed in their courtyard overlooking the Village Green.
If wine is your preferred beverage of choice, then make the short drive over to the Rocksgate Estate Winery, renowned for its boutique shiraz, cabernet and merlot. Take in the vineyard-swathed valley views on their outdoor terrace and feast on gourmet wood-fired pizzas.
Nature enthusiasts can take a walk on one of the many hiking trails through the bushland of Bungendore Park, including the Honeyeater Hike and Robin Ramble. You can also take in the rugged beauty of the Wungong Gorge along the walking trail that meanders along its stream bed.
