Set on a half-moon bay, Baie Lazare dazzles visitors with its sugar-white beach sandwiched between turquoise water and jungle-covered mountains. The postcard-perfect enclave is named after the French explorer, who claimed the island for France in the 1700s. Today you can bask on the sand, splurge at one of the upscale resorts that freckle the coast or venture inland to explore lush spice plantations.
Things to do in Baie Lazare
A long stretch of sand fringes the bay and makes Baie Lazare perfect for enjoying the sunshine and relaxing with a good book under the shade of a palm tree. Enormous granite boulders add to the cinematic scenery.
The calm, crystalline water of Baie Lazare is perfect for cooling off on a hot day. Splash in the shallows or swim out a little deeper to snorkel with rainbow-coloured coral and schools of tropical fish. When the breeze is up, Baie Lazare transforms into one of the top windsurfing destinations in Seychelles.
A handful of resorts dot the bay and offer barefoot luxury just steps from the sand. The best properties are set in lush tropical and feature glassy infinity pools overlooking the beach. Sip cocktails in your deckchair and enjoy fine dining at the upscale restaurants.
Nature trails wind through Jardin Du Roi Spice Garden and take you past aromatic trees bearing cinnamon, cloves and nutmeg. After touring the gardens, dine on dishes featuring locally-grown spices at the restaurant.
