About Bad Kissingen

Located on the banks of the Franconian Saale River, Bad Kissingen is a popular spa town in northern Bavaria renowned for its therapeutic mineral springs. It forms part of the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Great Spa Towns of Europe and is clustered with architectural monuments dating from the 12th century.

Overlooking Bad Kissingen are the remains of Botenlauben Castle, which is believed to have been constructed around 1180. It fell victim to peasants from Aura an der Saale during the 16th-century Peasants' War, with the ghost of the cook who enabled their access said to still wander the castle today. Botenlauben Castle comes to life during the annual Burgfest when medieval activities are recreated.
