A popular commuter base built on an ancient marshy plain, Bab Ezzouar is one of the fastest growing suburbs in Algiers. It’s home to one of Algeria’s most prestigious technological universities, as well as a multi-level shopping mall for all your retail needs.
Things to do in Bab Ezzouar
The Houari Boumediene University of Science and Technology occupies the southern area of Bab Ezzouar, just a short walk from its main train station, while the Business District stretches to the east. International chain hotels, fashion stores and banks can all be found here, together with the postal headquarters.
Centre Commercial Bab Ezzouar lies in the heart of Bab Ezzouar, with specialty shops and supermarkets set across its three stories. It also features an indoor pool where you can cool off during the summer heat, with plenty of local eateries and international restaurants to choose from.
Bab Ezzouar borders the El Alia Cemetery where some of Algeria’s most notable citizens are buried. Witness the graves of famous writers, artists, football stars and revolutionary heroes, together with Allied soldiers who died during the North African Campaign.
If you’re travelling with young ones, you can visit Dream Park in neighbouring Mohammadia to find a range of theme park rides and attractions. For a more leisurely experience, take a stroll along the Boulevard Front de Mer to admire the faded glory of what was Algeria’s most popular beach resort during French Colonial rule.
