It’s easy to reach Albany and just 15 minutes’ drive north of Auckland Central Business District. There are several public buses which operate from central Auckland. Taxis are also readily available. From Albany centre, public buses transport visitors to Westfield Shopping Mall. Alternatively, it’s easy to walk to the shopping complex in just over 15 minutes. Regular buses run from near North Albany Expressway to the beaches.
The suburb was known by the Maori people as “Place of Rainbows”. The town was also referred to as Lucas Creek, before it was renamed after Prince Leopold, Duke of Albany. Although Albany is a suburb of Auckland, it has an independent town feel to it. Many surrounding areas are still semi-rural making for a more peaceful retreat away from the main city.
