Located directly west of the city centre, Al Sadd is one of the oldest mixed-use neighbourhoods in Doha. It has recently undergone extensive development, with high-end shopping malls and sporting facilities among its attractions. At the district’s heart is Al Sadd Street with its international eateries and stores selling gourmet goods.
Things to do in Al Sadd
Coincide your visit with a soccer game at Jassim bin Hamad Station, which regularly hosts international matches and is the home ground of Al Sadd Sports Club. It has the capacity to accommodate almost 13,000 spectators and encompasses a swimming pool and a multi-sports hall. Also within the district is Ali Bin Hamad al-Attiyah Arena, which was built to host the 2015 World Men’s Handball Championship.
Al Sadd’s commercial district centres around Al Asmakh Mall, which features an earthy colour palette inspired by a desert oasis. It’s home to big-name retailers such as the Home Centre and MAXX Fashion, as well as international fast-food chains that include Papa John’s Pizza and Baskin Robbins. It lies just a stone’s throw from the Royal Plaza Mall, which offers a more upscale shopping experience.
On lively Al Sadd Street, you’ll find a wide choice of jewellery stores and eateries, which range from pastry shops to restaurants specialising in gourmet Arabic cuisine. You can pick up sweet treats at Chopin Chocolates & Dates or enjoy the floral bouquets at Riviera Flowers before feasting on Persian dishes at the Shebestan Palace.
