Lake Malawi Museum charts the rich history and heritage of Mangochi and Lake Malawi. Marvel at colonial guns and check out a scale model of the Gwendolen, a famous British gunboat. Other exhibits spotlight the ethnic traditions of indigenous Malawi people.
Mangochi is peppered with restaurants and cafes where you can enjoy traditional Malawi food. Hauled in from Lake Malawi, fried chambo is a local delicacy served in a spicy gravy. It’s often accompanied by creamy corn porridge known as nsima. For dessert, enjoy soft sweet potato cookies served with coconut cream.

Getting around Mangochi
Taxis are a quick and comfortable way to get around Mangochi. Local buses are also a good way to get around. Lilongwe International Airport is a 3.5-hour drive away.
