preloadYoung couple having fun riding scooter in old European town

Summer in the northern hemisphere is drawing to a close.  While Europe welcomes travellers year-round, summer is definitely one of its most popular tourism periods. Every year, increasing numbers of holiday makers continue to battle the crowds and the high temperatures to visit the top destinations.

So which city is the most popular of them all? We decided to take a look at the number of hotel bookings made in European cities over the 2014 summer period (July – August)  to find out where the tourists are heading:

London is the top summer destination in Europe, followed by Paris, Barcelona, and Rome. Dublin comes in at number five, followed by Berlin, Amsterdam, Edinburgh, Manchester and finally, Prague.

With bookings in these cities increasing nine per cent overall from last year, it looks like more and more travellers are making the most of the long days and warm weather.

Do these cities rate in your top ten European destinations?
