The region occupies much of North Rhine-Westphalia and is one of the top hiking, cycling and mountain biking destinations in the state. The Sauerland Cycle Ring is one of Europe’s most interesting trails, taking you along a former railway line and through a 700-metre-long tunnel filled with bats.
Winter snowfall sees Sauerland transform into a world-class destination for skiing and snowboarding.
