Home to the famous Iguazu Falls, the Province of Misiones boasts some of the most stunning natural wonders in Argentina. Nature is the main attraction in this region, where you can explore lush jungle landscapes, impressive waterfalls and well-preserved ruins from Jesuit missions.
Things to do in Misiones
Nothing can prepare you for the sheer beauty of the UNESCO-listed Iguazu Falls. The thunderous power of the 275 individual falls covers nearly three kilometres to create a spectacular display of nature. Take a boat trip to the falls, walk amongst the scenic nature trails and admire the renowned national park.
History enthusiasts can visit the ruins of San Ignacio Mini, a 17th-century Jesuit mission complex with impressive red-tinted architecture. It was constructed in 1666 in the Guarani baroque style and guided tours highlight the work of the missionaries and their contributions to the Guarani culture.
Take a break in Parque Tematico de la Cruz to admire the panoramic views over the Parana Jungle. Meander down the trails to visit the natural springs, observe local birdlife and explore the butterfly house and orchid farm. For a dose of culture, admire the beautiful artwork on display at the Exhibitions Gallery in the cultural centre.
Stand at the centre of Mocona Falls and marvel at its seemingly endless wall of falling water, as this unique natural wonder runs perpendicular along the length of the Uruguay river. Instead of following the normal downward trajectory, this three-kilometre-wide waterfall in Mocona Provincial Park spills off the side of the gorge.
Getting around Misiones
Libertador General José de San Martín Airport is about seven kilometres from Posadas, while buses and trains connect to nearby cities. In Misiones you’ll find plenty of taxis and buses, but the best way to get around is by foot.
