The city of Trieste cascades down a plateau before meeting the Adriatic Sea. Walk down to the waterfront to admire handsome Neoclassical buildings and stroll around the marina filled with luxury yachts. Borgo Teresiano, a neighbourhood filled with 18th-century architecture, is one of the most beautiful areas of the city. The Canal Grande flows through the neighbourhood and is lined with trattorias where you can sip Aperol and soak up the atmosphere.
From long sandy beaches to family-friendly lidos, there are plenty of ways to cool off in the Province of Trieste. The charming seaside town of Muggia promises white-sand beaches and turquoise water. In Duino, you’ll find silver pebble beaches framed by rugged karst cliffs. Centuries-old Duino Castle towers over the coast and commands spectacular views over the Gulf of Trieste.
Beneath the surface of the Miramare Marine Reserve, you can discover a wonderland of marine life. Guided scuba diving and snorkelling trips get you up close with enormous schools of damselfish and white sea bream. You can also spot colourful sea sponges and anemones.

Getting around Trieste
