Playa Langosta is a laid-back surf town fringed by gold-sand beaches and lush tropical vegetation. It’s set on the Pacific Coast of Costa Rica and offers an idyllic escape for those seeking an authentic taste of “Pura Vida” living.
Things to do in Playa Langosta
The crescent-shaped beach at Playa Langosta resembles a postcard. Soft, golden sands stretch down to meet the crystalline waters of the Pacific Ocean. Less crowded than its bustling neighbour Tamarindo, Playa Langosta invites you to bask in the Costa Rican sunshine, splash in the waves or take leisurely walks along the sand. Comb the beach at low tide to peer into rockpools filled with colourful sea creatures.
Perfectly shaped, consistent waves make Playa Langosta a paradise for surfers. Local surf schools offer board rentals as well as lessons if you’re just discovering the sport. Ride the whitewash or paddle out to the reef breaks if you’re a more experienced surfer.
Las Baulas National Marine Park is set on Tamarindo Bay and is a sanctuary for marine life. The park is named after the leatherback sea turtles that nest on its shores. Guided night tours offer a unique opportunity to see the magnificent reptiles emerge from the waves and lay eggs on the beach. Mangrove forests fringe the shoreline and are home to monkeys, crocodiles, ocelots and colourful birds.
Playa Langosta's beachfront restaurants and cafes pair delicious food with spectacular ocean views. Savour freshly caught seafood and enjoy traditional Costa Rican dishes like “gallo pinto” rice and beans served with pan-fried sweet plantains. Sailfish, mahi-mahi and yellowfin tuna all pair perfectly with ice-cold Imperial lager.
Getting around Playa Langosta
Playa Langosta is compact and easy to get around on foot. The town is a five-minute drive or 20-minute walk from Tamarindo. Rent a car for the freedom to explore surrounding sights and attractions in Guanacaste Province at your own pace. Liberia International Airport is a one-hour drive away.
