Surrounded by snow-capped peaks, soaring cliffs and tumbling waterfalls, Geirangerfjord is one of the most picturesque fjords in Scandinavia. The UNESCO-protected inlet stretches for 15 kilometres and features cobalt-blue water and emerald vegetation.
Riding the ferry from Geiranger to Hellesylt is a quintessential Norwegian experience and showcases stunning views of the glacier-carved fjord. For a hands-on adventure, rent a kayak and paddle across the fjord. You can also rent a car and drive the Trollstigen mountain road, a National Tourist Route that snakes through fjords and features hairpin bends. Sightseeing buses also run from Geiranger to Andalsnes, a gorgeous stretch of road known as the Golden Route.
Well-marked hiking trails take you to historic farmhouses and scenic lookouts. In the main village of Geiranger you'll find charming bakeries, cafes and chocolatiers. Enjoy a drink at Geiranger Brewery, which is housed in a historic boathouse.
