Stretching along the Balearic Sea, the Costa de Valencia is a sun-drenched coastal area in the Spanish province of Castellon. It’s home to a mix of sandy and pebbly beaches, plus beautiful coves that offer countless opportunities for water sports and sailing.
Relax on the palm-backed sands of Playa de Canet, which extends north to the restaurant-dotted shores of Playa de Almardá. A breezy promenade lines the pebbly beach at Chilches while the centuries-old foundations of the Torre de Beniesma watch over Playa Moncofar. Dogs are welcome on Playa de Nules.
For elevated views across the Costa de Valencia, climb to the ruins of Castillo de Almenara, a 10th-century fortress built by the Moors on Roman remains. It rises above the lagoons and wetlands of the Espai Natural Els Estanys d’Almenara, which provides an important habitat for migratory birds.
Getting there
The Costa de Valencia is around 30 minutes’ drive from the centre of Valencia and 45 minutes from Valencia Airport, which has flights to destinations across Europe and North Africa. Trains connect from Madrid and Barcelona to towns dotted along the coastline. Renting a car is the most convenient way of getting around.
