The hotel isn’t extremely grand and pleasant to look at, externally, and in the main areas. The room we had, 256, a ‘Standard Double’, was less than impressive. The double bed which was barely big enough for two of us, that was pushed up against the wall was a shock to see when we first entered. The threadbare curtains were also less than appealing. The bathroom was good, although it could have been cleaner. The soap scum on the taps only needed wiping off, but hadn’t been done. We were glad we took our own kettle, as the one in the room didn’t look as clean as it should have been. The room was extremely hot, and we kept the window open for the duration of our stay. The staff were good. Pleasant, polite, and friendly. Breakfast was good. A wide variety of hot and cold options. The time taken to seat guests though could have been better. The queue down the corridor indicated that the breakfast room was busy. This wasn’t the case. It was just taking some time to seat guests in an empty breakfast room. A small grumble, but that could have been better. I wasn’t surprised that when checking out we weren’t asked if we had enjoyed our stay. Overhearing other guests conversations, I think they know not to ask for an easier life! Not sure how this hotel has maintained its 4 stars. I think 2 stars would be more applicable.
