i had stayed at this hotel 4 years ago with a tour group. my memory was the excellent location and comfortable rooms. however, on this occasion the initial reception i received was unsettling. the front of desk guy refuted that there was a reservation in the system whilst i had email evidence of my payment. this saga took about 15 minutes until another staff member located this in the system. it was stressful for a non Spanish xpeaking female foreigner who travelled hours by bus and with a medical condition to be treated like this. this tainted my view a little. the hotel itself is great. its got atmosphere as it was a convent in its hey day. it has a pool which overlooks the Cathedral. nextdoor is Starbucks for convenience. perhaps if i was to return to Merida, i would book one of the more cuter and smaller run hotels in the barrio of Santa Lucia.
