I booked this hotel because I needed a low-budget room at short notice, and this was the only place which still had availability. The staff were helpful and the room was clean but it was looking very tired; there were old stains on the wallpaper and some of the furniture was chipped (I accidentally put a splinter in my thumb while trying to find a light switch in the dark). It was noisy on a Friday night, especially as it sounded like there was loud music playing somewhere in the building, however I was told by colleagues staying elsewhere in the city that other local hotels e.g. Ibis were no better in this repsect, and by midnight the building was just about quiet enough that I could get to sleep with ear plugs. In short, if you are on a budget this will do the job, but be aware that you will get what you pay for. It is a shame as it was obviously a very grand hotel when first built, it needs some sympathetic investment to restore its former glory.
