Things to do in Punta Cana
Punta Cana is known as “golf heaven,” with renowned courses such as Punta Espada, a par-72 course Jack Nicklaus signature design with winding trails and colourful vegetation. An alternative option along the seafront is La Cana Golf Course, where you’ll tee off atop lush seashore paspalum turf with spectacular water views.
Head over to Manati Park to see flamingo and crocodile exhibits as well as a Taino dance performance and parrot shows. Dolphin Island offers an interactive introduction to the world of dolphins, including a 30-minute personal encounter for swimming or dolphin petting. You can also swim with sea lions.
Nightlife in Punta Cana ranges from laid-back hotel lounges to pulsing discotheques. Check out Imagine Punta Cana Disco for dancing and cocktails in a series of natural caves lit with colourful neon. Individual caves play specific types of music, ranging from Latin beats to house techno and American-style pop.
You’ll find loads of water sports activities along the Coconut Coast, which stretches from Punta Cana to Bavaro. Beachfront kiosks offer everything from windsurfing to sailing, stand-up paddleboarding, kayaking and zip-lining. You can also take a catamaran tour for snorkelling and scuba diving or swim in crystal-clear waters of the famous Hoyo Azul sinkhole.
Getting around Punta Cana
Local buses provide transportation in Punta Cana or you can order taxis and “motoconcho” taxi motorcycles. Rental cars are available at Punta Cana Airport, while walking is common around the beach and resort areas.
