Things to do in New Smyrna Beach
To learn about New Smyrna Beach’s past, head to the New Smyrna Museum of History. The exhibits depict the town’s rich history and the interior gallery gives an overview of the area throughout the ages. Upstairs, visit the pottery exhibitions and observe the artefacts collected by local historians.
There are plenty of beaches to choose from, but Apollo Beach is a favourite for its unspoiled landscapes and large land turtles. If you look out to sea on a clear day, you can see the NASA launch pad in the distance.
Travelling with the kids? The Marine Discovery Centre is an eco-friendly centre set on the Indian River Lagoon that aims to educate visitors on the area's geology. Spend a day kayaking around the lagoon or have an overnight adventure under the stars with a nature guide.
On the northern tip of the New Smyrna Beach peninsula sits Smyrna Dunes Park. The park is surrounded by water on three sides, making it a great spot to go fishing and swimming. Hike the nature trails, make use of the picnic tables and climb the observation tower for a bird’s-eye view of the beach.
Getting around New Smyrna Beach
New Smyrna Beach sits just over an hour east of Orlando International Airport, with taxis and shuttle buses servicing the city. Hiring a rental car is the most convenient option for getting around.
