Overlooking a palm-lined stretch of sand, Mui Ne is a traditional fishing village and beach resort on the Vietnamese coast. In recent years, it’s become a popular destination for windsurfing and kitesurfing, while it’s also a stone’s throw from ancient ruins dating back to the 9th century.
Things to do in Mui Ne
Don’t miss the Red Sand Dunes, which are located a short drive north of Mui Ne. These ochre-coloured slopes are reminiscent of the Sahara and offer magnificent views across the East Sea. Rent a sand board to fly down the dunes or explore during a quad biking or dune buggy tour.
Stretching along the nearby coastline is Mui Ne Beach, which is a popular setting for swimming, windsurfing and kitesurfing. At the northern end of the beach is a traditional fishing village with a handful of seafood restaurants while the southern end is ideal for water sports. On the other side of Mui Ne is Bai da Ong Dia, a rugged coastal area that’s frequented by parasailers.
Mui Ne makes a good base for visiting the Po Sah Inu Cham Towers, a cluster of three ancient towers that are dedicated to the Hindu deities of Lord Shiva, Agni and Nandi. Constructed more than 1,000 years ago, they rise atop Ong Hoang Hill, from where you can enjoy sweeping views across the surrounding coastline. Nearby are the remains of a fortress once used by South Vietnamese and French troops.
Getting around Mui Ne
Mui Ne is around 35 minutes’ drive from Phan Thiet and around three hours from Lien Khuong Airport, which has flights to destinations across Asia. Regular buses connect to Mui Ne while renting a car and driver is the most convenient way of exploring the surrounding attractions.
