Famous for its white-sand beaches, rolling rice fields and scenic hiking trails, the island of Lombok is a slice of paradise. This Indonesian island is also famously home to Gunung Rinjani, Indonesia’s second-highest volcano.
Things to do in Lombok
For a day of soaking up the sunshine, visit Senggigi beach, one of Lombok’s most popular surf spots. Here you’ll find an abundance of eateries, bars and boutique shops lining the beachfront amidst the swaying palm trees. You can have animal encounters at Pusuk Monkey Forest, where you’ll find wild monkeys swinging amidst the trees and stunning mountain views.
Mount Rinjani sits to the north of the island surrounded by green pasturelands and has a staggering elevation of 3,726 meters. Take a day tour of the volcano and follow your local Sasak guide as you climb up to the top of Crater Lake for impressive panoramic views over Lombok.
Looking for adventure? The Gili Islands are a 20-minute boat ride from Lombok and are home to some of the best diving and snorkeling sites in the world. Choose between Gili Trawangan, Gili Meno and Gili Air, before embarking on an underwater adventure amongst sea turtles, reef sharks and stingrays.
Getting there
Lombok International Airport is the island’s main airport. From here, take a taxi or bus to the heart of the island. Alternatively, fly into Bali and make use of ferries that cross the Lombok Strait.
