Things to do in Hawaii
Natural beauty abounds throughout Hawaii, where you can explore ruggedly handsome landscapes at Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park on Island of Hawaii. Haleakalā National Park, meanwhile, provides the 3,055-metre-tall Haleakalā Volcano, along with zip-lining and cycling. Speaking of stunning water, you’ll want to tick off as many Hawaii beaches as possible while on holiday, starting with the picturesque Lanikai Beach on O’ahu. Here you can surf calm waves and sunbathe on the soft white sand. Head to Waimea Bay for big-wave surfing, Hanauma Bay for snorkelling with turtles or Punalu'u Beach for the unique black sand created by lava.
Are you interested in Hawaii’s rich history? Start your immersion with a visit to Pearl Harbor, the site of an historic air and naval battle that took place during World War II. It’s now home to a sombre monument that lists all the names of the soldiers involved, along with an interesting aviation museum.
For local culture, visit the Polynesian Cultural Center, where you can see traditional dancing and get hands-on with canoe rides, creating coconut “milk” and throwing spears. Another family-friendly experience is the Honolulu Zoo, home to over 900 animals from Hawaii and around the world, including warthogs, bongos, orangutans and sun bears.
Getting around Hawaii
