Home to one of the largest industrial parks in the United States, Hauppauge is a small hamlet on New York’s Long Island. It is located on the site of an underground spring that provided an important source of fresh drinking water for Native Americans and takes its name from an indigenous word meaning “sweet waters”.
Sprawling north-west of Hauppauge is Blydenburgh County Park, which encompasses the headwaters of the Nissequogue River. Stretch your legs on the boardwalk trail, go kayaking on Stump Pond or explore the 19th-century settlement at the Blydenburgh Farm and New Mill Historic District.
On the opposite side of Hauppauge is the Wind Watch Golf & Country Club, which encompasses an 18-hole golf course, tennis courts and an outdoor pool. The golf course is renowned for its water features and ends at one of the highest points on Long Island. Relaxed indoor and outdoor dining is available at the Seasons Grill.
Getting there
Long Island MacArthur Airport is around 15 minutes’ drive from Hauppauge and has flights to destinations across the United States. New York City and John F. Kennedy International Airport are around an hour away. Regular buses serve Hauppauge.
