Settled in the 19th century by Isaac Hardee, Hardeeville lies a short drive north of Savannah, Georgia. It was originally known as “Hardee’s Station” before being renamed “Hardeeville” when the town was founded in 1911. In recent years, it has become known as the “Lowcountry Host” due to its abundance of traveller lodgings.
Things to do in Hardeeville
On the northern edge of Hardeeville is Sergeant Jasper Park, a 130-hectare green space that offers recreational activities throughout the year. In addition to hiking and cycling trails, you can rent kayaks and canoes to explore its lakes at your leisure. Cast a fishing line into the small pond, let the kids run loose in the children’s playground or challenge your family and friends on the 18-hole disc golf course.
Sprawling west of Hardeeville is the Savannah National Wildlife Refuge, which encompasses bottomland forests and freshwater wetlands along the border between Georgia and South Carolina. It was created as a sanctuary for water birds and, during the winter months, attracts thousands of mallards, pintails and teals migrating along the Atlantic Flyway. Exhibits about the history and ecology of the refuge are on display in the Visitor Center.
Golfers can test their skills on the 18 holes of the Golf Club at Hilton Head Lakes, which has been designed by the renowned golf course architect, Tommy Fazio. In addition to its expansive fairways and angled greens, it features an impressive practice facility and a full-service golf shop. After your game, you can relax over lunch at the Cafe at Hilton Heads Lake.
