Located on the southern edge of the Anoka Sand Plain, Fridley forms part of the Minneapolis-Saint Paul metropolitan area. It hugs the east bank of the Mississippi River with its fringing parklands and islands while encompassing Moore Lake and the hiking trails of the Springbrook Nature Center.
Things to do in Fridley
North of Fridley is the Springbrook Nature Center, where you’ll find interpretive exhibits about the local flora and fauna. Around five kilometres of hiking trails wind through the surrounding wetlands, prairies and oak savannah while bird banding and nature camps are regularly held on site. If you’re visiting in the winter months, snowshoes can be rented for exploring the snowy landscapes.
For a retail fix, head to the nearby Northtown Mall, which is packed with big-name international retailers and fast-food eateries. You can pick up a bargain at the Ragstock Outlet or browse the shoes at Champs Sports before refuelling at Charleys Cheesesteaks or the Lucky Wok. In the heart of the mall is an indoor amusement arcade that kids will love.
Fishing families can visit Moore Lake to try their luck at luring in bluegill, largemouth bass and northern pike. The adjacent park features a large children’s playground, and basketball and volleyball courts, as well as a charming bridge from where you can spot turtles and frogs. Sweeping views across Moore Lake can be enjoyed from the Sand Dunes Natural History Area.
