About Florence

A terracotta city in the heart of Italy’s Tuscany region, Florence is home to a rich Renaissance history, a budding art scene and nightlife to boot. Family-run food trucks and restaurants carry on rich culinary traditions, while bridges over the Arno river reveal ever-changing scenes of local artists and musicians, fiery sunsets and unmatched romance.

Things to do in Florence

The Uffizi Gallery in Florence is the world’s greatest treasure trove of Renaissance art. The works of Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo and Botticelli don the walls, and if you head here early, you might get each exhibit to yourself.

The Cathedral of Saint Mary of the Flower, also known as the “Duomo” is Florence’s biggest attraction. With a grand orange, domed, roof the cathedral is visible from afar but for panoramic views of the city, climb the cathedrals 463 steps.

Dining al fresco is a must while in Italy, with plenty of restaurant terraces to dine under the warm evening sun. There are many delicious eateries to choose from, but if you happen to be by the Church of Santo Spirito, head to Borgo Antico restaurant for delicious pizza.

If you fancy a little greenery head to Boboli Gardens, a lavish sculpture park located just south of the River Arno. With a grand palace and Renaissance sculptures dotted amidst flora and fauna, the gardens act as an open-air museum.

Getting around Florence

Pisa Airport is around a 90-minute drive west of Florence and buses and taxis run regularly. Once in Florence’s city centre, everything is walkable as the town is relatively small. However, hop-on-hop-off buses run frequently and provide quick transfers between attractions.
