The #1 thing about the hostel is the location, just a block from Grant Park, a couple blocks from the Chicago Art Institute. #2 - the international crowd that gathers on the second floor; very congenial and welcoming, all ages welcome, a great place for solo travelers and those wanting company and exchanging travel info. #3 They have a very good breakfast and free left-over food in the fridge during the day. #4 Security is taken very seriously, to the point where you have to swipe your card four times to get into your room, including the elevator. Staff is very friendly and helpful. They take great care of luggage that you need to keep in storage for the day. Wi-fi worked well. Down side, as with most hostels is having to share a bathroom. Not a big problem, except in the morning when you have to wait in line to take a shower. Rates are good for single people wanting to share a dorm; not such a great deal for couples having to pay $150/night, but considering hotel rates not a bad deal, especially for the location. Rooms and beds are reasonably comfortable. All in all I recommend it to those who have a sense of adventure and are not super fussy.
